Facilities on the Qinghai-Tibet Train

There are three different coaches for the Qinghai-Tibet Train, which are soft sleepers, hard sleepers and hard seats.

The Qinghai-Tibet train is composed of 2 soft sleeper carriages (32 soft sleepers each carriage & 64 soft sleepers in total), 8 hard sleeper carriages (60 hard sleepers each carriage & 480 hard sleepers in total) and 3 hard seat carriages (98 seats each carriage & 936 hard seats in total).

In order to provide a relatively convenient and comfortable environment and better meet the needs of passengers. So the train is equipped with various facilities and offering corresponding services to facilitate passengers.

The facilities and services provided on the Qinghai Tibet railway are as following:

1. Air-conditioning 
The Qinghai-Tibet train is traveling on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. It is general knowledge that the temperature will drop by 4-6 degrees while the altitude ascend each 1000 meters. The highest point of the train ride is over 5,000 meters, you can see the snow-capped mountains, the freezing sweep the windows of the train and the temperature would drop to near zero. No need to worry you would get cold while you take the train, cause the train supplies heating, also you would have a warm quilt on your sleeping berth.

2. Charging socket
There are charging sockets on the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, but they are mainly concentrated in sleeping carriages, no charging sockets in the hard-seat carriages. 

There are 3 charging sockets on the walking aisle near the folding chairs for the hard sleeper compartment. For the soft sleeper compartment, there are not only three sockets beside folding chairs in each compartment, but also one socket in each compartment, which makes charging more convenient.

3. Oxygen supply
Starting from Golmud, the Qinghai-Tibet Railway start the oxygen supply. The elevation from Goldmud rises fast in a short time, the diffusion oxygen supply will be used in the compartment. There are also several oxygen outlets on the train too. 

If you are suffering from acute altitude sickness, you can ask the staff on the train for plastic tube for free. You can insert the plastic tube in the oxygen outlets, and connect the other side of the tube with your nostril. This can quickly alleviate the discomfort caused by high altitude hypoxia.

4. Control system of oxygen generator
There is a monitor showing data of the control system of the oxygen generator. You can see the elevation of the area where the train passing by, the temperature of the inlet air, the oxygen concentration in the carriage etc... We can understand the situations in the train carriages better by checking the monitor.

5. Boiled water 
There is a water heater at each carriage junction area, so the passengers can make tea or have instant noodles, or drink hot water, unlike people from other countries who like to have iced water, the Chinese people are big fan of hot water. While it’s meal time, you can see the passengers go get the boiled water with their instant noodles cup. You can also buy instant noodles on the train from the snack trolley.  

6. Medical service 
When the train arrives at Golmud Station, a doctor and a nurse will get on the train from Golmud Station and enter Tibet with the train to deal with the emergency situation of passengers. So that they can provide medical assistance whenever passengers need on the way to Lhasa.

Besides drugs for frequently-occurring diseases, there are also high altitude anti-hypoxia drugs and first aid drugs in the fists aid box that the doctor take on the train. In addition, there will be electrocardiograph and oxygen saturator on board in order to order to make more accurate diagnosis.  

7. Dining carriage 
Generally speaking, the dining carriage is on the 13th compartment. The dining car has a good dining environment, bright and spacious and tables with cloth. The chef will start cooking after you ordered, so all the dishes are freshly served. As the train heading forward, while enjoying the delicious food by the big windows with  beautiful scenery flashing back. across the windows. It may also be a very joyful and interesting experience of your Tibet tour.
