Lhasa Gonggar Airport Information

01-01-2017

As is known to all, flight is the most convenient and fastest way of traveling. Lhasa Gonggar Airport is situated about 65 km away from Lhasa City within the territory of Shigatse Prefecture. Tourists can take a direct bus from Lhasa Civil Aviation Authority to get there.

Located in Gonggar County, 65 km away from southwest of Lhasa downtown area, Lhasa Gonggar Airport has opened domestic inter-provincial flight routes to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Xiamen, Fuzhou, Hangzhou, Chongqing, Chengdu, Xi’an, Kunming, Diqing, Xining and Lanzhou and domestic provincial routes to Ali, Nyingchi and Chamdu all started from Lhasa. However, there is only one international flight route from Lhasa to Kathmandu opened at present. Most of travelers prefer to take flight from Chengdu to Lhasa for there are the most round-trip flights between Chengdu and Lhasa.

Tips:

The peak season of visiting Tibet starts from May to October of every year. Till then, the flight ticket leaving from Lhasa will be very limited, especially around the Shoton Festival. So it is strongly suggested to book the round-trip flights before the arrangement of Tibet tour. In addition, there are flights to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chongqing and Chengdu on every day while to other cities, the flight is not available on each day. Hence, tourists please check carefully about your flight details.

There are shuttle buses traveling to downtown area from the airport, taking about 40 minutes in total and charging for 25 RMB per person. The bus is feasible the whole day and the last scheduled bus will leave at 9:30 pm while the cab will cost around 150 RMB in low season and 250 RMB in high season. If you are in Lhasa downtown area, you can buy the shuttle bus ticket at the Civil Aviation Ticket Office, Niangre Road of Lhasa center. In regulated departure period 6:30-7:30 am, 8:00-8:30 am, 9:30-10:30 am and 1:00-1:30 pm, as long as the seats are full, bus will depart and even there are not enough passengers. Of course, taking taxi to the airport from downtown area is also doable, which charges for 30 RMB per one. Nevertheless, for the sake of your own safety, it is more desirable to take the shuttle bus. You can take the bus to the airport one day in advance and live in hotels near the airport, but with more fee charged and worse living condition than that of Lhasa downtown areas.
