The metro line is the cheapest option but it is always very crowded. If you have luggage suitcases, take the shuttle bus or taxi will be better choice. Yes, it is a must to have a China Visa if you travel to Tibet. To apply for your Tibet Permit, we need your passport and China Visa copies if you hold a tourist “L” visa. Should you have business visa, or work in China, an extra invitation letter or company letter is required. Only if you travel to Lhasa from Nepal, you do not need to apply for your China visa in your country.
There are 4 ways from Hong Kong to Guangzhou, train, bus, ferry as well as flight. Among them, taking train might be the best choice since it only takes 50 minutes by bullet train and 2 hours by normal train. The bus journey takes about 4 hours. It is a little boring to wait for the immigration process. You need to get off the bus, take your luggage and go through immigration by walking. There is always a long queue to wait. Once you go through the check point on the side of mainland China, you need to take another bus from the same company to the destination station. If you choose to take the ferry, you will spend 100 minutes to get to the ferry dock and another hour by taxi or bus to get to city center. It is a little strange that there are still flights flying between Hong Kong and Guangzhou. That is the last option we will suggest. It takes 1 hour to fly but way too much expensive.
In order to get the best price, it is good to avoid the peak season for Tibet tour and book the tickets early for discounted price. The high season for Tibet tour is from April to October and the flights are always expensive unless you seize the opportunity of special offer. Besides, the flight prices during Chinese National Holiday and Lunar New Year Period are in large demand and very expensive. If your travel date is flexible, it is better to avoid this period. Besides, sometimes you might get better price if you fly to Chengdu or Chongqing and then change to Lhasa.
