In 2025, Saga Dawa falls on June 11th, which is the 15th of the Tibetan lunar fourth month (full moon). It is the day of Buddha Shakyamuni’s birth, enlightenment and Parinirvana (death). Saga Dawa is known as Buddha Auspicious Day, and is also one of the most important festivals in Tibet.
How Many Days will Saga Dawa Festival Last in 2025?
Literally, Saga means “the fourth”, and Dawa means “month” in Tibetan language. So that the entire fourth month of the Tibetan calendar is the “Buddha month”, and is celebrated as the traditional "Saga Dawa Festival", but reaching its peak on the 15th day of the month. Buddhists believe that a person’s actions are multiplied as a result of karma (ethical consequences in Buddhism) which took place in this month, no matter the positive or the negative.
